What an amazing and articulate girl! I don’t think anyone could get the message across any better. A fantastic lesson for anyone working with Learning Disabilities.
I think this should be shown in lectures at all OT teaching Universities.
I myself had a fantastic placement experience working with with learning disabilities and saw so much potential, enthusiasm and determination to learn with such wonderful personalities and character from people with Downs Syndrome.
These interesting figures from the World Health Organization (WHO) show that heart disease, stroke and respiratory infections are still top killers in the world. Also sadly, not much change from the percentages of deaths for HIV/AIDS.
The percentages for deaths from diabetes and road traffic accidents have also increased and whilst TB figures have decreased slightly it still killed one million people in 2011. TB is preventable with the vaccination and could be wiped out if it was available to all world wide. http://www.vaccinestoday.eu/diseases/tb-return-of-a-preventable-disease/
Many of these illnesses can be prevented with the right treatment and education.
From an Occupational Therapy perspective, there is much scope in this profession to promote and educate on well being in the community rather than just treatment and re rehabilitation.

Some of you may know I am taking part in the 60 challenge to raise funds for research for Multiple Sclerosis. I am giving up chocolate, wine and meat!
I am also trying to raise awareness for this debilitating disease.
Please wish me luck and take a look at the video and the attached links if you would like to know more about MS and also the justgiving site for those who would like to raise funds or donate.
and a little poem Gemini style..
Here is a plea
I have made in verse
It is a curse
No words today
Describe the disease
But funds for research
Will make me pleased
On my birthday
The greatest prize
Would be to see
The MS fund rise!
